NOTE: I have a review with spoilers on Goodreads.

I don't know how coherent this review will be considering I've not had much time to think about this yet but I need to discuss this!

First of all, I think the protagonist Leah definitely made me question her motives, her 'story' and basically everything about her which I liked. I didn't sympathise with her completely without questioning her. (more spoilery thoughts in my Goodreads review)

The plot was suspenseful and I was constantly trying to work things out. I liked a lot of the plot twists we got. Some of them in particular, I thought were very well done. The merging of the past and present plotlines weren't as 'tidy' as some of Miranda's other works. It did get confusing in a few bits and I definitely have questions but I think it fits well with the whole unreliable narrator situation we have here. I think the plot was executed pretty well though it wasn't the best. It kept me hooked and I couldn't stop listening, finishing this in two days when audiobooks usually take me longer. I think that speaks volumes about how engaged I was.

I think what made this a four-star book for me is partly the ending which I'm actually very satisfied with and the level of unease that Miranda managed to create and evoke as a response to me listening to/reading this. I really did enjoy the ending though. The somewhat open and ambiguous ending doesn't bother me because I feel like we got enough to fill in the blanks and I usually hate open endings.

Overall, I really did enjoy reading this. I think this or 'The Girl from Widow Hills' is my favourite book by Miranda. I look forward to reading more of her work and I'm glad I gave this a go! I'd recommend this is you like slow-paced thrillers that genuinely do unsettle you. This unsettled me in a lot of different moments and I was listening to this in the middle of the day. I'd definitely recommend this.
