Sufficient bait

NOTHING jars more than an obvious error - the writer describes herself as a reporter for the London Herald.
There is no such publication,
There was once a Daily Herald published in London
It underwent several changes of management before ceasing publication in 1964, when it was relaunched as The Sun.
So this book gets off on a false premise.
Then it has a runner, fishing a body out of the river - the obvious victim of the title.
The runner, described as a jogger is training for a marathon on 20 miles a week. And has to resort to using an inhaler to boot.
Some runner and some jarring incongruities in this first impression.
The writer also seems to have a varied and hapless love life.
All this in the opening pages.
Can we hope for something with more substance?
There is always the argument for creative licence. But that should not allow distract from actuality.
That said, there remains enough bait cast out to lure the dilligent reader.
