Within the first few pages the author leads you in to a certain way of thinking about events. The chapters are written from Sophie's perspective or Emily's, the former a friend, the latter a wife. A young woman has been murdered and Sophie, a journalist, starts to link events to others in the past. She begins to doubt her long-standing friendships and veers from suspecting one person then another as the murderer. The newsroom, the police and her dis-functional family, including the death of her brother, are all clearly described and woven in to the story. As the reader I also suspected one person then another. The characters reveal facts about themselves gradually. I could not put this book down and never saw the twist coming.
