I’ve not read the author’s previous novel in the Sophie Kent series so I came to this totally ignorant of stuff that’s gone on before. However I really didn’t feel that that spoiled my enjoyment of this story in any way.
It’s somewhat different from most thrillers as our main protagonist is a journalist rather than a police officer,lawyer, private investigator etc. Sophie is the crime reporter on a London paper and her best friend, Charlie, has disappeared and is the main suspect in connection with the murder of a woman he’s apparently been having an affair with. Needless to say, nothing is that straightforward. There are several characters who fall into the weird category and Charlie’s wife is so irritating you long to lamp her one. None of that is a criticism as it’s good to have diverse characters in these books and many twists and turns.
I would recommend this as a really enjoyable read and I will read more by this author.
