Although well written, I'm sorry to say that I didn't enjoy this book. The way it portrays the characters, whilst realistic for its time, means that all the females but particularly Rebecca, the main character, are written as subservient to the men and I am worried that this will worsen. In todays world this is not a book I would enjoy reading - I like to escape and warm to all the characters - I don't think I will in this novel.
