The first two chapters give the impression that Mr Palmer is hiding a secret, possibly a mistress. His new wife appears so eager to please that it angers him. Mrs Palmer reads as a lost soul who just wants to be loved and make good decisions. I get the feeling that this will be a book full of twists and unexpected events.
