I adore the cover of this book - a hint of the macabre with a real Steampunk Victoriana feel about it.
Rebecca had though she was destined to be a spinster until Alexander marries her. What she doesn't realise is that he is using her as a guinea pig for his new "medicine".
These magical salts are his intended cure for the female condition - pretty much suggesting that women are rendered incapable at certain times of the month and very much should be opinion less, brain dead and just there for decoration.
It seems preposterous in this day and age but this was the Victorian era and those magical salts are heroin.
Before long Rebecca is addicted and a shadow of her former self but when she learns the truth about her husband (and the strange shoe she found in his office) she finds the strength to escape.
She breaks her addiction and then her husband. A cracking tale of revenge.
