This book has such a beautiful cover, I was instantly drawn to it.
I'm not usually a huge fan of a historical novel, but after reading the synopsis and the first few chapters, I was really drawn into the feel of the book.
I love that you get a real feel for Victorian Edinburgh, it was very evocative and the author definitely conjured up the sights and smells well with her vivid descriptions.
The descriptions of heroin use were so cleverly written, it really demonstrated the descent into addiction, how addiction starts and that higher and higher doses are needed to feel the effects.
Although uncomfortable to read at times, it really highlighted the difference in equality of the sexes at the time.
Overall well paced and enjoyable!
