I really enjoyed this book. The intriguing cover, the print and the thickness of the pages all added to the quality of the writing to produce this masterpiece.
This book is about the subjugation and oppression of women in the Victorian Age. Rebecca is newly married to Alexander who owns a pharmacy in Edinburgh although he is more interested in his experiments in the workshop above the shop. He believes he has invented the cure for the weaknesses in women - heroine. He proceeds to carry out trials on his wife and other women without their knowledge.
This is a dark and frightening insight into the rights of women in the 1860s and the debauchery and supremacy of men. As the blurb states it is very reminiscent of the works of Sarah Waters.
