After reading the first sample of the book I knew this book would be interesting and different from the normal books I read. However, this book just took a different turn then I thought it would.

The world the author has created is interesting as it is set within the 19th century Edinburgh which I love. But that’s the only thing I did love about this book.

All of the character within this book were either annoying enough that I couldn’t connect with them at all. As I didn’t finish the book I couldn’t see any of the character grow, however from what I saw I was not interested to see how they developed further.

The plot of the novel was simple but the way the author put it out wasn’t enough for me to carry on reading the book.

The area of the book where I got too was where i got very confused. As the concept of addiction was introduced and the character were experiencing the affects of the drug, it was confusing to know if what was happening was real or a dream.

Overall I think this book wasn’t for me however I did love the historic side of the story and plot. But the historic aspect of the story wasn’t enough for me to engage with the whole story and the characters.
