The cover already had me intrigued, very dark and ominous. Right away the abduction happens, then we get a bit of filler about a non book signing event and his ex calling him about a missing girl, is it a different one to the one from the beginning or the same one isn't clear. Then we move straight into the mystery of thousands of walls with no apparent purpose.
It's a bit scattershot for a beginning, but i am intrigued to see how these things will inevitably come together, what part the walls play and the reason behind the abduction.
I already read the author's previous book so enjoy his writing style, but can't work out when this is supposed to take place, is it after the events of the previous book or before? I thought there might be some reference to it to place this story in context with it but there wasn't in the extract other than me recognising the names. Don't think it will be anywhere in the same league as Stephen King based on the previous book though, that's a bit too ambitious of a thing to be putting on the cover, leaves a lot to live up to, but i'm happy to be proven wrong.
