The Possession by Michael Rutger is the second installment in his series The Anomaly Files, which follows a group of YouTube filmmakers and their encounters with the paranormal. We follow the team as they travel to the town of Birchlake to investigate ancient, mysterious low stone walls in the area and the disappearance of a teenage girl.

The story started out well and I was hooked by both Kristy and Nathan's perspectives from the start. The dialogue was sharp and the characters, especially Ken, were unique and engaging. Rutger writes relationships really well, and you got a clear sense of the group dynamics from early on. I could easily see this series being adapted for TV.

However, despite the promising start, things went downhill in the latter half of the book. The plot got overly complicated and I struggled to follow all the threads of the story. Characters were confusingly in two places at once, Alaina's back story was unconvincing and there were some inconsistencies in the plot. Although I enjoyed it overall, I felt as though the author tried to fit too much in and subsequently had to scramble to tie all the loose ends together.
