The concept of the book seemed quite captivating and mysterious, as it turned out to be. I imagined it was more like a thrilling mystery to solve, then it revealed to have supernatural element.
I liked the idea of witchcraft, and the explanations reminded me a bit of Dan Brown's books.
The writing is modern, easy to understand and the story is well structured. The paragraphs are brief and keep the narrative dynamic and active. There are two point of views, one in first person and the other in third, both in past tense.
I expected a much deeper mystery about Alaine, the missing girl. I also found that the switching between point of views was a bit distracting and disconnected, and the story loses its momentum a few chapters
