I was disappointed reading this novel.

There were elements I really liked, and I loved the first impression. It had eerie bits, an element of mystery and magic, and real depth in places when linking the story to real events and thought processes that gave it that 'it's not true but what if it was' feeling.

All really good things for a story to have, apparently it's part of a series which I wasn't aware of but it reads fine as a standalone, just means some of the characters and references don't always seem consistant, but that didn't bother me either.

Really in terms of the premise of the novel it's really great.

Unfortunately, and I can't quite put my finger on it, Michael Ruther's writing just didn't hold my attention. There were short bits I loved followed by sections where I almost zoned out. I actually put this book aside and read something else and then picked it back up again, because I thought maybe I just wasn't in the mood at the time.

The Possession has lots of brilliant gripping moments and plot points, and things that are very eerie, but then I found the general writing and the connections/fillers didn't do anything for me and undid whatever atmosphere the interesting bits were trying to build.
