I can see why Michael Rutger's The Possession has a sticker on the front of the book recommending it to fans of cult writer Stephen King. It is dark and atmospheric, with many twists and turns and very suspenseful. The initial reason for the journey of the explorers being completely different from the situation they then found themselves in makes for an interesting premise, and the setting almost becomes a character too, full of mystery, danger, intrigue and deception. Thriller/suspence novels can be hard to master, in order to get the balance right, and this is a weightly tome indeed, much like Stephen King's own work. It is an interesting story that draws you in and keeps you interested throughout, which is a credit to Rutger's writing style. Definitely an author to watch out for in the future.
