The first thing that drew me to this book was the warm, summer time theme. This book starts in 1925 after the death of her father, May Moon feels that she has to continue on with the family tradition of the punch and Judy show and follows the difficulties that she faces along with her younger sister Pomona. This part of the book is the only bit that has anything to do with the seaside and punch and Judy, as the story progresses it follows May and Polomas life's as they grow from young girls to young woman. Further into the booktheir mother returns into both of their lives. This book is full of family issues as well as joyful moments. This was the first book I have read by Sheila Newberry and looking into other books she had written they look like they will be equally good reads.
