The Quickening talks of the big change, a time when the power shifts from the men to the women.

This novel arrives at a time when gender is a very contentious topic. While many readers would agree that the distribution of power disproportionate, and a female-lead society sounds ideal, it also contradicts the modern opinion that gender is not binary. So to minimise a society to things that are male / female really goes against what many LGBTQ+ try to achieve whereby society should be seeing past gender.

I think this book will very heavily rely on the reader, as we all have different experiences to gender / gender roles I think that will heavily influence how a reader approaches this book.
