Have you ever wondered what a country would be like if it was governed entirely by women?

This unsettling dystopia is set in London, in the not too distant future, in the wake of a global virus and war. The worldwide chaos is terrifyingly possible and eerily close to home considering recent headlines, and it sets the scene for Riley's cast of headstrong, political-minded women to stride in and start over, creating a new matriarchal society.

But all is not solved by the advent of female power. Instead, the abuses, prejudices and biases so prevalent in patriarchal society are echoed in this fledgling structure, and the desire for revenge at the heart of the female regime takes this tale in a dark and disturbing direction.

As chilling as the subject matter is, I couldn't help but be awed by the cleverness and insight of the author's writing. She draws you in immediately and keeps you hooked until the end with her wit, perceptiveness and raw depictions of humanity. This story forced me to consider profound questions and had me writing down quote after striking quote. It's such an interesting take on equality, diversity, feminism and human nature.

I recommend it especially for fans of George Orwell's '1984' and Naomi Alderman's 'The Power'.
