A dystopian novel, which raises some good questions, but in some cases, felt as if there was a lack of knowledge of feminism.

Dana, the prime minster has eradicated the patriarch, all thanks to her manifesto 'The Quickening'. Women are now in power and men are sub-servant. Arthur, who has known Dana since being a student at Oxford university, is the protagonist who eventually tries to fight against the matriarchy. Their relationship makes it a poor love story.

The premise of the book was good, but I felt the story was underdeveloped and was like a poor version of Orwell.

The way men are treated within the novel reflects some of the treatment towards women in current society, such as assault. Even some of the smaller details, such as how wives are seen as the property of their husbands, is brought out. In the novel, husbands are now their wife's property.

I did wonder what the main plot would be, but it is only towards the end that anything really happens. Up until that point it is just the experiences of Victoria and Arthur
