Thank you Readers First for the review copy of The Quickening by Talulah Riley. I’ll be honest I was really looking forward to reading this book, which is set in a dystopian world where women rule the UK and men are the secondary sex.

Initially the book was engaging, setting the scene, from Dinah’s early days and her rise to power and establishment of a new society. Unfortunately as the book progressed my engagement waned as the story and Dinah’s intentions seemed to become very strange and the plot petered out.

Whilst this was in interesting read, the protagonists didn’t capture my empathy and I was not engaged, and the story itself seemed to finish rather suddenly, leaving me dissatisfied.

Whilst personally, this wasn’t the dystopian tale that I was hoping for, the premise of the plot is sound and the concept is truly interesting.
