This dark, dystopian tale tells the story of a futuristic world, post ‘The Change’ in which women rule. Big Ben becomes Big Bess, all phallic buildings are removed and men become gentlemen or eunuchs. Women are in control in many weird and wonderful ways, led by Prime Minister Dana Mayer.
This is not a genre of book that I would normally read and it is totally removed from my middle of the road life and values. But clearly, that’s the point! It is shocking, disturbing and far fetched in parts but actually a feat of imagination and creative writing by the author Talulah Riley. I think it will divide readers like marmite and it would provide great debates at a book club.
The book cover is intriguing, the pretty pink Q and the use of just three colours is powerful and would stand out on a book shop shelf. It made me grateful and appreciative to be living in this far from perfect world of 2022!
