The Quickening is not a fabulous read. It's mediocre and there were many times when I wanted to give up, but I stuck it out and I'd say the last 2 chapters are really where all the action seems to happen.
Dana and her crew have started a revolution. The world has gone mad, there has been a deadly virus which has wiped out a lot of the human race and Dana has become prime minister, leading the new world under a new regime; men are the inferior race and should be put in their place. Women are god now and deserve all the respect. As a man if you had committed a sin in the "old ways" then you were to suffer your punishment now. Dana has kept one man very close to her, in fact despite being married to someone else, Arthur is very much in love with Dana and will do anything she says. However there are some men lurking in the shadows who want to break free from the constraints, can Arthur help them though is the big question.
As I mentioned in the beginning this wasn't the most interesting of reads, it's a little out there and quite unrealistic, but it has an ok ending with potential for a sequel.
