I've always been a huge fan of 'The Boy in The Striped Pijamers' so when it was recommended I couldn't wait to read the first impression. Ella is a very enchanting and likeable character and immediately you learn about her passions, interests and gage parts about her character, both positive and negative. Her relationship with Rose seems to be an interesting one and towards the end you can see how their friendship is going to develop and how they seem to bring out each other's childish attitudes.
I loved the cover of the book: the red ribbon symbolising the war really stands out against the grey of the background and the barbed wire is a stark reminder of the war going on around them. The warning about 'life and death' also really encouraged me to read the opening and find out more!
