I found this first look immediately compelling. Ella is an engaging and interesting character who I really wanted to get to know. It is really well written wtih evocative tales of sewing, and memories of food which must have consumed the thoughts of the Jewish prisoners in Auschwitz. I really want to read the rest of Ella's story, although I fear it will be a tragic one.
The cover is visually arresting, I'd pick it up from a shelf to find out what it was about. The pop of colour for the red ribbon really grabs the attention.
