Ella has been taken from all she knows, ripped from her family but her Grandmother's life lessons have given her a glimmer of hope in a brown and tired world of suffering. Taken to Birchwood she has been there for 3 weeks now, a zebra in the midst of the herd.

Opportunity knocks when a seamstress is needed and she lies about her age to get just a chance of a future, any sort of future other than the work and die one that so many have suffered here. They are all numbers here and will do whatever they have to to survive this place.

Will Ella have what it takes to make it through? With her Grandmother's words of wisdom echoing in her memory there's every chance she can and maybe Marta and Rose will help her too.

I was really disappointed to get to the end of the First Impression as I was swept away to the internment camp and really wanted to know what was going to happen to Ella and Rose when they were walked in on having a little waltz to polish the floor.

Enchantingly told from Ella's viewpoint I have been captivated from the get go.
