Firstly, this is YA, so it is not overly descriptive of the horrors within a concentration camp. But there is enough description that this is an obvious background.
The story is one of hope, survival and friendship.
I think the story provides many good areas for YA's to discuss about moral questions that turn up in life.
Is survival the only important thing? What about loyalty, love and friendship? There are opportunities to discuss all those points within the plot development.
Overall, a good read - I've given 4 stars when it would probably be 3.5! I hadn't realised it was YA and I think if I was that intended audience I would definitely go with 4 stars.
A heart warming story, though the ending may have been just a bit neat.
