I was drawn to this book straight away as I am familiar with Lucy Adlington's History wardrobe talks and know how good she is at setting scenes by describing clothes and fashion.

The cover is just right, the hopeful bright colour of the ribbon with the backdrop of barbed wire intertwined. It describes the book without the need for any words at this point.

The first 30 pages didn't dissapoint and although you know it's going to be a heartbreaking story, there's just something about the magical world of sewing combined with the naivety of a young woman that makes this compelling reading.
Being a sewer myself I could relate to this girls anxiety about cutting into lovely silk fabric but, oh, what a price to pay for getting it wrong!

I'll be adding this to my Christmas wish list.
