I received this book in a book subscription box and had not heard of it before. The blurb didn’t give much away so I really went into it blind. Immediately I was drawn into the story and the lives of the characters by the way it was written. It was clear that the author felt a lot of warmth for her characters. I could not put the book down and sat and read it over five hours. The last few chapters I cried my way through but ultimately it was a heart warming story full of hope.
I did find the ending slightly unbelievable, if I’m honest, however I think it completely fit the tone of the story and would much rather it ended the way it did then have a more realistic but devastatingly sad conclusion.
Overall a lovely book with characters you want to root for. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes to read historical fiction and would love to read another story about Ella and Rose.
