I liked this book
This book was set in Auschwitz but is referred to in the book as ‘Birchwood’. Like the character Rose, who likes to tell stories with a mixture of fiction and reality, this novel is a mixture of both of these things. In ‘The Red Ribbon’ we meet Ella who works as a seamstress making clothes for the guards and the commandants wife. She quickly makes friends with a girl called Rose, and the red ribbon becomes a symbol of hope for the two young girls. Ella dreams of freedom and owning her own dress shop with Rose in the future.
I liked the writing style but due to the nature of the book, I found it difficult to read at times. What I did enjoy was how some of the pages had the image of a red ribbon going through them! A must read!
