I love this book.
It tells the story of fourteen year old Ella who goes to work to make clothes for Hedwig Hoss, the wife of the Auschwitz Commandant.
Ella lies about her age saying that she is sixteen and not fourteen because Marta the boss of the workshop will probably send her to the gas chambers.
When Marta mooks her saying she wants proper seamstresses and not schoolgirls, Ella says that she is a cutter, a person who cuts the material to size so it can be made into clothes.
Ella makes friends with Rose a girl at the workshop. Together the girls read fashion magazines.
Ella is infuriated when she makes a dress for a young woman and Marta passes it off as her own work.
Ella and Rose are amazing characters.
