I first discovered the Red Ribbon after joining the blog tour where I got to the interview the author. Lucy was a great person to interview but I also really loved the Red Ribbon as it was a deeply engaging WWII novel that was a really unique concept. I would love to read more from her.

Based on a true story, The Red Ribbon is based on a true story of dressmaking in Auschwitz. This definitely was a subject that I had not heard of before and was interested to learn about. The characters were interesting and complex and it was really great to see them develop throughout the novel. I also really loved the lead friendship in the book which was wonderful to read about. Except for the idea that it is a story dealing with female characters in the story which is what I enjoyed in this, the other aspect that I loved was that it dealt with LGBT+ themes in WWII and political prisoners. This is unique because this is not the topical focus of WWII and made it stand out from other novels from the others of this type. The is also going to be a sequel to this which I am really excited about.

The Verdict:

The Red Ribbon is a unique historical fiction story that is both touching and heartbreaking. It is a great World War Two story focusing on women and is perfect for those who love historical fiction and want to start.
