This book is about a girl who was a Jew during World War 2. At the start of the book she is introduced as living in a place called Birchwood (The English translation from German) which is in fact a real life concentration camp called Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland. During the Holocaust many Jews were taken from their homes and sent to these camps, in this book the main character is a girl called Ella who is living in the concentration camp and gets a job as a dressmaker. It tells the story from her point of view of what it was like to be laboured into work at such a young age with all the ups and downs. It is a mixture of truth and fiction. It was very easy to understand and I was hooked from the first page. I would highly recommend this book!
