What an intriguing start! This story is different to anything I've read before and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens as the book progresses.
The characters are relatable yet offer new perspectives on the world, especially Nova. I already feel I have learnt a significant amount about how people with sight impairments experience the world differently to those with good sight just from the first 3 chapters. It is sensitively approached but also seems to be a realistic portrayal of blindness.
The prose is descriptive but still flows well and the story moves at a pace fast enough to keep the reader engaged. I especially appreciated how Heap drew subtle parallels between the 2 main female characters, connecting their stories early on in the book. I can easily see how these ladies lives will intertwine to create a compelling narrative.
I am definitely excited to read more and discover the fates of Nova & Kate.
