This is the story of Nova who was born blind and has learned to live a good life without sight. She has a good job and lives independently. Her brother encourages her to have an operation which may enable her to see. The descriptions of the difficulties she faces after the operation really made me think about how much we take our sight for granted. The other main character is Kate who is in an abusive relationship but seems reluctant or unable to walk away. Her relationship with Nova is a major part of the story. The story is written in the present tense which is a style that I find irritating. I feel the writer was trying to address too many issues in this book. I felt the ending was unsatisfactory and unrealistic.
