I was engaged by the storyline of this book and enjoyed the central characters - Nova and Kate. Nova is partially blind and is regaining her sight. Kate is trying to escape her abusive husband.
I thought the author did a great job at describing Nova's experiences at coming to terms with regaining her sight. Nova sees this as learning the rules of seeing; it's like another language to add to her already established bank of 5. This is something not easy to imagine as a sighted person yet this book makes it feel like something that you can at least try to understand.
When she meets Kate in hospital, they develop a friendship and their relationship only blooms further from there. I liked the development of the characters relationship together and seeing how this developed over the course of the novel.
I did, however, find that the story was a little slow at times and perhaps dragged out. It probably could've ended sooner that it did. But, it was still a strong read.
