THE RULES OF SEEING by Joe Heap

This was a relatively quick read for me, and had me gripped right to the end.
I’d originally bought this as part of a birthday gift for a friend, but since she’d already read it, I came home with it, secretly very pleased as I was really intrigued to read it.

Having personally worn glasses or contact lenses since I was 2 years old, a book dealing with sight was fascinating - I had never given thought to what it would be like to regain sight from blindness, and the invasion of senses that would entail.

The characters of Nova and Kate (but particularly Nova!) were instantly likeable and well thought out, and I enjoyed Nova’s Rules of Seeing interspersed throughout the text - my favourite being No. 45: “Clouds look surprisingly solid. Do not worry - planes/birds will not crash into them”

This story had several arcs which at times seemed quite a bit of ground to cover in 400 or so pages, but overall this kept me interested and I’m excited to see what comes next from the author.
