Well written, not quite what I expected

Plot-wise, this book was not at all what I expected from the cover and the blurb. I was anticipating a much lighter tale, particularly with regards to the relationships between the characters. In places this book is very dark, and this isn't obvious from how it is advertised.
Nova's story is very well written, showing us how someone blind since birth might react to learning to see and needing to learn all the little visual cues we're all brought up with and learn without realising. She was a breath of fresh air in a book which could otherwise have become overly dark and depressing.
Kate's story is much darker, particularly her relationship with Tony, and was difficult to read at times, though it's a story that is definitely worth telling.
I felt the tone of the book wasn't quite sure if it wanted to be a rom-com or a thriller, and this could be a little jarring at times. The ending is particularly dark, and is perhaps more suited to a thriller-type book.
Overall, a decent book, but not the light romance I expected.
