Linda doesn’t fit in – she wants to be a Mod but insists on wearing her CND badge, she is from a council estate but goes to the high school and while her best friend is intent on getting married, Linda does not know what she wants out of life. It’s the 1960’s and while there are moves to ban the bomb there is also a more progressive approach to life and what young women can expect out of it.
Then into Linda’s life comes Sylvie and Mansell and suddenly Linda begins to think of what she can achieve in life even though she knows that this will mean seeing less of her best friend Sandra. In some ways Linda is accepting of this as Sandra is in with a bad crowd and Linda can’t make her see sense.
This is a very enjoyable book about growing up in 1960’s Chelmsford.
