The Secret Runners of New York is described as a thriller but it encompasses many forms, mystery, science fiction, horror and a little touch of romance. This could have led to an odd read but Matthew Reilly brilliantly pulls together all the different aspects and story lines in the novel. The central character, Skye, is a teenager who has just started at an exclusive New York school, along with her twin brother, Red. Three girls, all relatively new to the school, have disappeared in the last two years. Initially the reader suspects this will be the central theme of this novel but there is so much more going on as well as, but connected to, the disappearance of these girls. This book will be read and enjoyed by readers who like a mix of genres, they won't be disappointed.
