Not an sci-fi/apocalypse lover generally but definitely will continue reading

Not being a sci-fi fiction lover generally, I must admit an initial apprehension. Conversely if you're interested in the Upper East/West side and waiting for post-Gossip Girl insight, Reilly, along with the scientific themes links them together perfectly for an easy read. The beginning prologue of a cliff hanger establishes numerous questions - where the heck have these girls disappeared to? Meanwhile, the context and assumed protagonist, Skye Blue - although perhaps a little annoying and ungrateful - addresses current and topical issues such as high school and teenage pressures along with home-life and mental health.
Not an author I have read works from before but ultimately one/a book I am likely to continue reading.
