Don't misunderstand me, this was an enjoyable book to read, it just wasn't really what I was expecting after reading the first impression and the blurb.

They gave me the impression this was going to be the next big apocalyptic or dystopian novel, similar to the likes of Maze Runner, or Shade's children, maybe I misunderstood though because this didn't do it justice.

It had brilliant concepts, a select few rich kids find a time travel method that kicks them 20 or so years into the future after an event has killed most of the living creatures on the planet,an event no one in the present truly believes is going to happen, sounds ideal!

My problem is that it takes so long to get to the main attraction, whilst the reader is treated to a well written insight into the petty lives of the young super rich, with some mystery and suspense are hinted at. (There's the odd disappearance and cruelty, along with the looming threat) I feel the author lost themselves in the character's they had created and rather neglected the depth of plot.

It is a very enjoyable read but when the kids eventually figure out what they have stumbled across and the mystery behind the disappearances of their friends it's a surprise, but the time travelling premise and the view point it is told from means you find out a lot of the events that happen, 20 years after they happen, and the author to my mind took some short cuts at the end, sadly you experience very little of the moment the world ended.

(Really I wanted to read about the end of the world and the action in the immediate aftermath and chaos, not have the stories retold or be discovered in the future after the event, and the ending was a bit of a flop to my mind as it's a bit 'world has ended but let skip to happy families' ending for the protagonist.

It seems a shame as I say it was enjoyable enough, but it was such a brilliant premise, and the author is clearly good at character dynamics, so I wish they'd gone in a different direction with this.
