I was torn between 3 and 4 stars for this one. It took a little while to get going as it sets up all the back story, then when it finally did pick up it zoomed to it's climax.

The main characters are enjoyable to follow, if a bit cliche for the high school age kids - the usual mix of outsiders, in crowd, bullies, victims etc from most schools and how they can quickly fall between the different categories upon the whims of whoever is top dog at the time. Some of them you do get to hate a fair deal so look forward to their hopefully inevitable comeuppance.

The missing girls link makes you think it may be more of a crime angle, but it ties in with the time travel angle after all. Then it was as expected the reasons behind the disappearance, so not as big a mystery as they probably want it to be.

The time travel angle was interesting, but a little underexplored in the history of it. It went back generations but it was only the current one that ever ventured outside the tunnel itself seems a bit hard to believe. No one else felt like exploring?

But by the end it left me wanting more, there is definitely space for more adventures in this future world. Even though it's a standalone book, could there be more?
