In cinema the Krays are suave gangsters with a ruthless streak running through their souls.

In this book, their actions come across as arrogant, reckless, fickle and futile. The author paints his character as a good man in a bad world, trying to lessen the damage of the wrecking ball that was the twins.

The writing is simple, direct and processes each story with a brief summary on what happened. This approach desensitises some of the violence, but means that you don’t get a feel for what the Krays were like. There are hints of a duality to their personalities. He does mention a little of their charitable nature, but I found it hard to distinguish Ronnie from Reggie.

Hopefully the rest of the book gives the reader more insight into the characters, adding some much needed depth. But as it stands, the content is interesting, but may get a little repetitive.
