Written as chapters out of a diary, this book is a snippet of time, 3 years to be exact, of John's time as a member of the firm. John describes how him and his mate Ian came to London looking for a fresh start. A chance encounter with the Krays uncle Billy leads them down a dark path of crime and murder. Although neither John or Ian actually committed any murders, they were accessories. John was Ronnie and Reggie's main driver and was involved in a lot of the decisions that were made, the sensible ones that it is!
It's an interesting read, and even though the twins got most of their money from clubs and casinos, they never dabbled with drugs. You really get an insight into how different the twins were at times, one was definitely a lot more wild than the other! Inevitably the firm get caught in a dawn raid by the police and gradually, one by one, each of the firm are charged with various crimes.
