I found this book really intriguing and that was deepened by the opening chapter when the main character as a child had quite a mysterious and sinister experience of being locked in her room and a unsettling conversation with her father through the door. You get the impression of danger although you don't find out what that is so it draws you in to read the rest of the book and find out what happened
