The pages flowed nicely in this all enveloping thriller. Georgia Sage had the emotional stuffing knocked out of her in a traumatic event from her girlhood. The echoes of this deeply terrifying event seep into her adult life.

Sage is a courtroom artist, but don't worry, the court action is not central to the plot. No, she paints pictures of defendants and deliberately tries to make them look guilty so that they get locked up and have the key disabled. Although this is strange behaviour, it's totally believable and understandable, when you consider her past life and the fact that she keeps all of her court room pictures and constantly refers to them, so that the evil men haunt her for ever more. It's no wonder she doesn't trust men.

The plot takes a roller coaster ride of queer happenings, stopping off for some supernatural diversions. But don't let that put you off, it all blends really well, maintaining the balance just right, the sense of mystery will keeps your bedtime light on well past midnight if you're not careful.

As the book draws to a close, the occasionally obscure narrative does mesh together rather well. It was so engrossing that I had sunk into the story, like I was an imp on the shoulder of Georgia Sage, and I'm a better man for it. What a read.
