The Sharp Edge of Silence is a very relevant, contemporary young adult story set within an elite boarding school. Lycroft Phelps has a long history with long engrained traditions of pranks, secret societies and ceremonies.

I particularly liked the start to this book with the acceptance letters sent to various students from the headmaster. From the beginning I noticed the subtle differences in how the male and female students are treated.

Throughout the book the narrative changes between multiple characters as we get different views of the story. Charlotte - the perfect student with the perfect, popular boyfriend, Max - scholarship student who unwittingly gets mixed up with the pranks and Quinn - a young student who was sexually assaulted the previous term.

When Quinn’s assault becomes public implicating a popular athlete people begin to question themselves and the school. Quinn wants revenge, her friends want him held accountable and the School wants a cover up.

This was a really powerful, fast paced read. There were some hard to read, uncomfortable moments but they were imperative to the story and so relevant for our times.

Overall a really enjoyable read which held my attention and concluded in a satisfying way.
