I’m an adult who enjoys an occasional YA read and this stood out to me with its main theme of sexual assault. I did find some of the Americanism of this difficult in some respects such as not understanding their school systems very well so it was hard for me to grasp the age groups involved but aside from that it was easy enough to follow. I enjoyed the multi perspectives on this, at times I wondered if Max was as relevant as Quinn or Charlotte but he actually added a good perspective. Quinn’s gun obsession challenged me at times, I could understand where her head was at but I felt there was more focus on the gun than her story until I came to understand how much of a coping mechanism this was. The few insights we had from the teaching staff were brilliant and also slightly scary but all of this added up to a very well constructed story, some parts were raw whereas some were stomach churning but it was all really well done. I think this is definitely better for an older YA reader (and also adults!) not just due to content but possibly length too.
