I was immediately drawn to the Sharp Edge of Silence when I saw the cover. Boys will be held accountable. This is the kind of story we need more of, ones where the women stand together in strength, holding each other up in the face of adversity.
I enjoyed the characters and their development, particularly the characters who were just trying to get by, and to figure out what was right in the moment. Max was a particularly good character, I found him very believable.
I also really liked the tone of the book, I thought the tensions was put in the right places, and when it really mattered the author didn't use cheap or unnecessary drama to get the easy emotional response, but instead relied on the fact that the trauma had already happened - isn't that bad enough? And now is the time for justice, not drama.
I was drawn in by the rowing storyline, and even as a deeply nonathletic person found the details very interesting.
I would recommend this book.
