If you’ve ever watched Thirteen Reasons Why, and loved it, then you will really love this book. Spoiler alert, there is no suicide! However there are lots of other elements that are very similar to the popular Netflix show.
Q is lolled into a false sense of security, taken to a school dance by the man (Colin) she’s had her eye on for a while, Q is in her element. The night takes a nasty turn when Q is raped by Colin. She feels utterly broken and disgusted with herself. Why did she not fight? Why did she freeze? She makes it her mission to make Colin pay for his crimes. She quickly finds that she cannot do this by herself and this is where we meet her saviours.
This was a really good read, I nearly gave up halfway through though, for reasons I’m not entirely sure, but I’m super glad I persisted, as it was very tense and thrilling towards the end. This book definitely highlights the ‘old money’ culture that is, I believe, in private schools, and the lengths they will go to cover up something that could really tarnish a reputation.
